Most downloaded apps in Q1, a fediverse feature, Pinterest Board sharing, and more

It’s that time of year—time to look at Q1 app trends.

Who’s on top? Instagram took the top spot from TikTok, followed by Facebook, WhatsApp, and CapCut. TikTok is still number one when it comes to consumer spending, though.

X didn’t crack the top 10 on either list.

… But X recently pivoted from a social media app to a news app, topping the News charts, even though it’s not a news app.

As usual, Meta dominated. And to protect its kingdom, it’s leaning more into the fediverse.

Let’s say you post on Threads, and that post also shows up on other platforms. Now, you’ll be able to see replies from everywhere without having to close Threads.

And while you can’t reply to them all from one platform yet, the fediverse is expanding, and it’ll likely be possible one day. Worth getting involved in?

Over on Pinterest, the new Board sharing feature allows you to share videos of your creations on social media.

It’s now widely available after testing, and people who you share your board with don’t even need to have a Pinterest account. A cool feature if you’re a visuals-orientated brand.

And finally: Reddit wants you to know how to use it for the holidays.

Yes, summer has only just arrived, and you probably don’t want to think about the holiday crush, but hey, a good marketer plans ahead.

So do shoppers—they start hunting for deals six months in advance. Reddit claims they use its platform to do research, read reviews, and make final decisions.

Good to know if you’re posting on the platform… or users are posting about you.
