Are shoppers over Etsy and eBay?
Not exactly. But the Q1 reports of both companies are worth looking at a bit more closely.
But first, the numbers: Etsy fell just short of the expected $646.3M in revenue—reaching $646M instead.
Reports suggest Etsy can’t keep up with lower-cost marketplaces like Temu, or bargain-hungry shoppers.
Things are similar over at eBay: The platform hit $2.49B instead of the estimated $2.54B.
Specifically, collector’s items and auto parts took the biggest hit.
Reading between the lines: These results suggest customers prefer deals and essential items over expensive or non-essential items right now.
And it’s leading to decreasing demand for handmade, personalized goods, and less attention to Etsy and eBay.
Guess that pesky inflation is still hanging around.
